VISIT TO LONG LEE SCHOOL In something of a new venture for the choir, a good half of our number paid a visit to the school on the afternoon of Friday, 14 March to give a short concert. The school have been arranging a number of visits from other music, drama and dance groups as a way of expanding the pupils' cultural awareness, and we were glad to play our part. We certainly enjoyed our short, fairly informal, concert and the children joined in singing with us most enthusiastically, ending with their choir joining us to sing "Let There be Peace on Earth". We enjoyed our visit very much and certainly hope the children did too! |

2002 was a good year for the choir, with highlights like the trip to Chester and North Wales (see below), but there is no doubt that for many of us the concert that will stay in our mind as one of the very best was the one at the Priory Church, Bolton Abbey on 27th July 2002. Beautiful weather, a wonderful setting, an large appreciative audience and - though we say it ourselves - we didn't sing half badly either! When people ask "Why do you enjoy singing with Steeton?", it's evenings like this that provide the answer. |

STEETON BOUNDARY STONES |
Two years ago, the decision was made to erect welcome stones at the boundaries of Steeton and Eastburn on the A629-- the main Skipton to Keighley road. The stones were put into place in December 2001 to honour the largest and oldest male voice choir in the Bradford Metropolitan Area. Pictured at one of the stones is (from left to right) John Jones, the Publicity Officer, Gilmoure Davies, then Chairman, Councillor David Emmott, Chairman of the Council, Terry Eggleshaw, who was the initial "negotiator" with the council, and Alan Clark, Musical Director. The stones are a reminder that the choir has been in existence for almost a century, and has been based in the village all of that time. The stones have not had an easy journey to their site; the first set crumbled in the frost last winter and had to be replaced. |
